Momofuku, a series of restaurants owned by David Chang (chef). On this post you will learn tons of things about this famous Noodle Restaurant!

Before we even start with the origin of the Momofuku Noodle Bar, lets first find out what is Momofuku, where did it come from and other things related to Momofuku and the noodle bars and restaurants.

Momofuku Ando

First and foremost, Momofuku Ando is the inventor of instant noodles and those noodles in cups, yeah, the cup noodles.

Momofuku Ando was born Wu Pai-fu into a wealthy Taiwanese family in Chiayi, Taiwan in 1910, when Taiwan was a part of the Empire of Japan. Ando’s parents died when he was at an early age. He was raised by his grandparents in Tainan, Taiwan. His grandparents owned a small textiles store, which inspired him to start his own textiles company using 190,000 yen, at the age of 22, in Eirakuchō, Taipei. In 1933, Ando travelled to Osaka, Japan on business. After World War II, Ando became a Japanese citizen and moved to Japan, where he entered Ritsumeikan University and at the same time founded a small merchandising firm in Osaka with the inheritance from his family.

Invention of Instant Noodles by Momofuku Ando
The whole instant noodle invention of Mr. Momofuku Ando was because of the shortage of food during the post- World War II. That is, with Japan still suffering from a shortage of food in the post-war era, the Ministry of Health tried to encourage people to eat bread made from wheat flour that was supplied by the United States.

Momofuku Ando wondered why bread was recommended instead of noodles, which were more familiar to Japanese people. The Ministry’s response was that noodle companies were too small and unstable to satisfy supply needs, so Ando decided to develop the production of noodles by himself. The experience convinced him that “Peace will come to the world when the people have enough to eat.”

I say, if there another great thing that came out from the war it’s the invention of Momofuku Ando’s instant noodles and cup noodles.
