Pre-need Plans vs. Mutual Fund

August 12th, 2008

My first born, Matt, already has an educational plan which we took when he was few months old, that is, zero age.

For my second son, Sean, I’m having second thoughts of getting him another similar educational insurance. I’ve had some talks to some financial institutions who introduce me also to mutual funds and other investment instruments. They told me that investing money to funds is much like taking an educational plan which also will take several years/decades to mature.

Such companies or futures trading are the ones that provides such funds (i think). So, I’m setting up a meeting with one of the leading mutual fund company and will invest the savings (that is supposedly for Sean’s educational plan) to the fund.
